Online Group Decision-Making
I am impressed with the work done by all three classes on the online assignment. Your suggestions to improve the advising and registration process are well argued, and each class did a fine job of putting the suggestions together into a cohesive and workable set of proposals. It was interesting to see how each class made use of writeboard, twitter, and the discussion board on writeboard, and our class discussion about how it worked for you was instructive. As I noted in class, the purpose of this assignment was to get you to work with some online tools to supplement/aid your group’s decision-making process. None are meant to necessarily replace face-to-face communication, but they may be used to allow for more efficient use of your meeting time.
Now that you have had a chance to use some online discussion tools, and we have talked about how they were used, I would like you to reflect on what your ideal application would be. Of course, every group, and every assignment, is different, but I think you can generalize a bit with this one. If you were working in a small group on a large-scale project that should result in some deliverable that would be reported to someone outside of your group, what would you use, and why? Be specific, and consider what tools you would use for different steps in your decision-making process, how you would plan face-to-face meetings, and how all of the parts would work together. Include an example of a project that you might work on, and how the process you describe would work. Your blog posts are due by 5pm, Friday, March 20th.
